Avid Technology, Inc. has announced that all of the nominated - and award winning - films in the Best Motion Picture, Directing, Film Editing, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Documentary Feature, and Animated Feature categories at the 79th Annual Academy Awards® were created with at least one Avid®, Digidesign®, or Softimage® system. Nearly two-thirds of these nominees employed workflows consisting of multiple Avid systems, and for the seventh-consecutive year, every nominee for a Sound Editing Oscar® used the Digidesign Pro Tools® system.
"In telling the story of United 93, we attempted to find and then marry together the most believable, compelling moments from our dailies. Avid systems provided me with the powerful tools to do just that," said Christopher Rouse, co-editor of United 93, 2007 BAFTA winner for Best Editing, ACE nominee for Dramatic Feature, and Oscar nominee for Film Editing. "We began with a couple Media Composer® Meridien™ systems and by the end of editing, post production had grown to eight Adrenaline [systems], all networked together on an Avid Unity™ system. Only Avid enabled our team to collaborate the way we did, which was an essential part of our creative process in exploring a difficult and emotional subject".
Paul Rabjohns, supervising music editor for Dreamgirls, which was a Golden Globe nominee for Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical, a BAFTA nominee for Achievement in Film Music, and an Oscar winner for Sound Mixing, said, "From the beginning of Dreamgirls, the music doesn't stop. The 79th Academy Awards concludes the 2007 awards season - one of the most successful for Avid and its customers - which also spans the Golden Globes, the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Awards, and ACE (American Cinema Editors) Eddie Awards. Across all of these awards programs, the majority of nominees and winners used Avid's industry standard video, audio, and 3D animation tools such as Media Composer Adrenaline™, Avid Unity, Digidesign Pro Tools, and SOFTIMAGE® | XSI®.
