001 - Introduction to Avid Editing - A Primer

Software: Avid Xpress DV

Certificate: RI certificate

Prerequisites: No prior knowledge of the video or film medium required.

Course Content: Introduction to the basic features of the Avid Xpress DV for use in TV serial editing and documentaries. How to use Avid Xpress DV to complete a basic edit, from creating and trimming sequences, editing audio, and outputting a finished program to tape. Fundamentals of editing aesthetics are also covered.

Career Opportunities: Assistant editors in post-production studios

119 - Editing on the Avid Xpress Pro

Software: Avid Xpress Pro

Certificate: AVID certificate

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of video and film media. Prior experience as Assistant Directors, Producers, Post-Production Executives or in multimedia, animation and advertising fields or Video editors and developers of interactive media.

Course Content: In-depth introduction to the techniques of non-linear editing on the Avid Xpress Pro system. All the basic phases of creating a sequence on Avid Xpress Pro, including inputting source footage, assembling and trimming sequences, editing audio, creating titles and effects, importing files and outputting work in multiple formats are covered. Emphasis on understanding workflows, and fundamentals of digital technology.

Career Opportunities: Editor/Avid operator in TV channels and post-production houses that edit basic advertising films and programs for television.

Advanced Courses

101 - Editing on Media Composer

Software: Avid Media Composer

Certificate: AVID certificate

Prerequisites: Prior experience as Editors on other software who would now like to learn to use the Avid.

Course Content: How to use the Media Composer software in TV serial editing, documentaries and basic Ad. Films.

Some basic effects are taught.
Introduction to concepts of non-linear editing and includes all basic features of the Avid Media Composer system for Macintosh and Windows NT. Using Avid Media Composer to digitize and organize source footage, edit sync and non-sync material, trim sequences, edit audio, add effects, create titles, and output work. The final product will be a finished program.

Career Opportunities: Avid Editors in high-end postproduction studios where Ad film editing is done.

A01 - Advanced Effects and Tips and Techniques on Xpress Pro and Media Composer

Software: Avid Xpress Pro and Media Composer

Certificate: RI certificate

Prerequisites: Prior experience on Avid Software but would like to update themselves on new features and versions of Avid. Experienced Avid Media Composer (or Xpress) editors who want to become more productive

Course Content: New/Changed features and tools in the latest version of Xpress Pro.

New plug-ins like Boris Effects and Sapphire plug-ins.

Advanced tips and shortcuts to maximize an editor's speed and efficiency while using an Avid.

Mastering the system's sophisticated editing features and shortcuts.

Advanced techniques to help streamline system, media, and project management.

Editing features (such as Sync Point Editing and Replace Edit), advanced trimming techniques, editing and viewing options, sync audio methods, keyboard shortcuts, user settings, and digitizing and redigitizing tips.

Project, media, and system management topics include: improving Avid Media Composer performance and moving and deleting media. Also tips on using effects packages such as Boris Red, Commotion, Photoshop, After Effects etc.

Career Opportunities: To move to higher-end post-production studios or to move into a better position as Editors instead of assistant editors
