| Kerala's first DTS Mix Facility - A joint venture between KSFDC and Real Image Media Technologies | |
 Thanks to the foresight of Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC), Malayalam filmmakers can now mix their soundtracks in DTS digital sound in Trivandrum, thus achieving greater sound quality locally while keeping the cost low. In introducing this new facility, Chithranjali upholds a long tradition of pioneering progress in the Kerala film industry. The complex was built in 1980 at a scenic location on the outskirts of Trivandrum with a view to providing the industry with much-needed shooting floors, camera units, labs and editing facilities (now non-linear).
Inaugurated in December 2000, the new 5.1 Surround Mix Stage at Chithranjali runs on a 64 track Pro Tools system with 24 I/Os and a USD connected to a Yamaha O2R Digital Mixer. Chief Sound Recordist, Mr. Krishnan Unni says, "surround sound technology can add a lot of creativity to filmmaking. It can add a fourth dimension to sound." He also believes that there is a benefit in using DTS sound in films as the frequency range improves, and digital reproduction offers superior quality.
 One film has already been mixed in DTS at Chithranjali and another two are in the pipeline. The studio is confident that several Malayalam films will be mixed in DTS this year and that the DTS Mix Stage will considerably add to the popularity of the facility. With Mr. Krishnan Unni, Mr Hari Prasad and Mr Irshad Hussain at the helm, backed by domain experts from Real Image Media Technologies, there can be no looking back as far as surround sound in Malayalam films is concerned.
