"Our gate collections have gone up by 25% to 30% after upgrading our theatre with this wonderful format named DTS. The greatest thing about DTS is that the quality of sound remains the same in spite of the wear and tear of the prints." M C Bobby, (Nice Movie House) Kottayam

All About DTS |

 |
The release of Universal Pictures' Jurassic Park, saw a new sound system for theatres - DTS had arrived.
Since its launch, the DTS system has earned a reputation for high quality, reliability and affordability in theatrical digital sound system. In fact, soon after its launch, DTS was honoured with a Scientific and Engineering Award by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for its contribution to the motion picture industry. Today most productions opt for DTS sound for their films. |
What is DTS? The DTS sound system has six tracks designed to produce the best sound reproduction in a movie theatre. These are Left, Center and Right which are the stage channels with speakers behind the screen for precise positioning of dialogue, separate Left and Right Surround channels to immerse the audience in the film and a Sub-woofer channel for enhancing the bass response. | How DTS Works The DTS digital soundtrack is not contained on the film itself but on separate CD-ROM disks. The six tracks of digital audio data stored on the CD-ROM disk are read by the DTS Playback Unit and played back in absolute synchronization with the film, by reading a special timecode track that is recorded on the film along with the existing analog soundtrack.
Films released in DTS thus still contain the traditional analog soundtrack for compatibility with every single theater.
Ultimate Performance
Operation of the DTS system is automatic and fail-safe. It is compatible with all existing cinema processors so its installation and operation is simple and fool-proof. Every foot of a DTS print contains a serial number which ensures that the DTS unit in the theatre will not play a different digital sound track even if an incorrect CD-ROM disc is inserted into the unit. Since every frame of the print contains the DTS timecode, the audio from the CD-ROM will faithfully track the picture, even if there are cuts in the print or the order of scenes is changed.
Fail-safe Backup
Because DTS prints have a conventional stereo optical track as well as the DTS timecode, a single inventory of prints can be used for all theaters. In DTS theaters, the optical sound track also provides a fail-safe backup. The DTS process makes digital sound an excellent and practical release format for all movies. | DTS Equipment
DTS provides superior quality digital and analog sound playback by combining the functions of a cinema processor, 6-track digital processor, and booth monitor into a single 4-unit-high package. The DTS-6AD delivers precise reproduction of analog and digital sound sources, and connection to automation systems.
The DTS-6D comes in the standard 6-channel configuration: Left, center, right, left surround, right surround and sub-woofer. It is an add-on unit to a cinema's existing analog processor.
