Digital Vision has announced the installation of a state-of-the-art Film Master colour grading and finishing system at Dutch post facility Loods, Lux & Lumen. The system will be used to grade Dutch feature films for digital cinema release as well as documentaries, commercials, shorts and broadcast productions.

The Film Master takes Loods, Lux & Lumen, based in central Amsterdam, to a new level of sophisticated colour correction with increased speed and first-class picture quality. The system will be used in the coming months to grade and finish two feature films. As early adopters of Digital Cinema standards, the Film Master fits perfectly with the facility’s DI workflow, which includes grading directly on the big screen using its 2K Digital Cinema projector.

Ruud de Bruyn, Owner of Loods, Lux & Lumen explains, “The possibility of 12-bit video output makes for a perfect match in colour and luminance as chosen by the DP and the final digital print shown in cinemas. The facility provides a balance between film and digital output by working in linear mode, which is required by Digital Cinema, without discarding the conventional workflows needed for a film print release.”

Loods Lux & Lumen Colourist Jef Grosfeld adds, “The purchase of Film Master is significant because it completes our digital workflow and takes us to a completely new level in colour correction. The toolset is outstanding and the new features that have been announced for the next release of Film Master such as the Advanced Tracker makes this the best system in the industry. The DVO software enhances the footage directly in the grading suite and with the increasing amount of RAW material coming in to the facility this will be invaluable.”

Simon Cuff, Digital Vision’s CEO says, “This announcement further highlights Digital Vision’s commitment to the Motion picture DI market and underlines Film Master’s creative toolset, which is unmatched by any other solution. Colourists all over the world are using Film Master to great acclaim taking full advantage of the speed, quality and wide range of features that the system delivers.”
